Breno Amajunepa

Joelson Breno Cayabi Amajunepá, known as Breno, is an international relations student at the University of Brasília and an Indigenous member of the Balatiponé-Umutina people. His territory lies in the transition zone between the Cerrado and the Amazon, near Barra do Bugres, in Mato Grosso, Brazil. Breno works at the intersection of climate adaptation, biodiversity and socio-environmental justice, with a strong focus on Indigenous territories and traditional communities. He is a communications intern at the Institute for Society, Population and Nature (ISPN) and member of the Youth for Climate research group within the Amazon Environmental Research Institute (IPAM). Breno is also part of the biodiversity working group for the Engajamundo network – Brazil’s largest youth environmental movement.   

His work spans ecological restoration, environmental education and community action projects. Currently, he is leading a collective climate adaptation initiative with his community on spring and forest restoration, reforestation and capacity building.
