Zuhura Ahmad, recognized as the EVWA 2024 Champion by the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens, is a Tanzanian gender-biodiversity advocate and environmental educator. With a B.Sc.
in Science with Chemistry and Biology from Sokoine University of Agriculture, Zuhura leads transformative initiatives addressing biodiversity, climate action, and women’s empowerment.
She serves as Head of Programs at The Women in Recycling Foundation, impacting over 100 women through circular economy practices and recycling activities.
She has been a co-founder of the Global Youth Biodiversity Network-Tanzania and empower more than 2000 Tanzanian youth and women to have an active and full participation in biodiversity policy and it’s conservation through knowledge-sharing and capacity building. She is also a Youth4Nature Global Ambassador, and on ground activator of the ”She Shapes Nature” project that supports young women in nature-based economies. Zuhura has earned the 2021 Gender-Climate Award and recognition as a Top 50 Rising Motherland Mogul in 2024. A prolific speaker and young inspirator, Zuhura blends storytelling, policy and conservation expertise to champion equitable, nature-based solutions for sustainable development in
Tanzania and beyond.
