How can Nyawiang Segara Balinese local wisdom guide effective seagrass restoration?
For the Balinese people, the sea is a sacred entity. It represents a space of connection between humans and the divine (spiritual), humans and nature (ecological), and humans with one another (social). However, as tourism development in Bali continues to expand rapidly, this balanced relationship with the sea has increasingly been marginalized. Seagrass meadows are among the most overlooked marine ecosystems. Quietly and persistently, they face pressure from boat activities and the daily dynamics of coastal tourism. Responding to this condition, the idea of “Nyawiang Segara” was born meaning to revive the sea in accordance with the values and wisdom that have long been passed down through Balinese tradition.
