La miel que restaura ecosistemas de montaña para salvar Polinizadores

Las abejas y otros polinizadores están en declive debido a la deforestación, al uso de pesticidas, al cambio en el uso de la tierra y la crisis climática.  

Esta situación también se vive al norte de Perú, en la montaña del caserío El Higuerón, en la comunidad campesina de San Francisco de Asís, distrito de Salas, Lambayeque; la deforestación es la principal causa.  

Por ello, en el año 2017, fundé Sumak Kawsay. Este emprendimiento ambiental promueve la conservación de las abejas nativas y otros polinizadores, restaurando así ecosistemas. 

Sumak Kawsay se enfoca en la producción de miel de abejas nativas sin aguijón, que posee elevadas propiedades medicinales, y miel de la abeja apis melífera. Ambas se producen en la montaña, siguiendo prácticas agroecológicas. A través del emprendimiento también ofrecemos agroturismo en “La ruta de la miel de abeja”, con la que además promovemos la equidad de género. Las mujeres generan ingresos gracias a esta ruta turística y de esta forma pueden mejorar su calidad de vida.

Con los ingresos de la producción de miel y del agroturismo se financia el proyecto de restauración de ecosistemas de montaña: reforestación con plantas nativas, conservación de tres especies de abejas nativas e investigación con fines de conservación.

Gracias al trabajo del equipo de Sumak Kawsay y otros colaboradores, como Earth Prayers, se han plantado más de mil árboles y continuamos investigando. Esperamos conseguir más fondos de financiamiento para incrementar y acelerar nuestro impacto, trabajando junto a la comunidad y usando sus recursos sosteniblemente. ¡La polinización verde es nuestro objetivo!

Supporting partners

The Restoration Stewards program provides funding, mentorship and training to deepen the impact of youth-led restoration projects. The year-long program is run by the Youth in Landscapes Initiative (YIL) and the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) under the banner of Generation Restoration to support and highlight the work of eight young restoration practitioners and their teams in 2023.

During the program, the Restoration Stewards and their teams are  supported to further develop their project and serve as ambassadors at both global and local levels. Globally, the Restoration Stewards share their journeys in a series of vlogs and blogs documenting their stories of inspiration and challenges and participate in different international events to showcase their work.
