Meet the local communities restoring ecosystems in Borneo
Restoring ecosystem is not just about planting trees, but also about how we could raise awareness of the surrounding community and involve them as agents of change to push forward the restoration and conservation agenda, since they will be the first to experience the effect of degraded ecosystem and will be the first to benefit from a healthy ecosystem.
In April and August, HIRAI worked with a local community in Pulang Pisau District, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, to plant trees in a previously burned area, and we had some time to have a chat and understand more about what they thought about the ecosystem and how the ecosystem degradation impacted their daily lives.
